We are experiencing a massive change as to how our society works.  This is one of the biggest shifts we have experienced since the end of the second world war.  How is it affecting you?  Have you thought about the impacts of covid-19 and the explosion of protests relating to race relations around the world?  How have these events affected you and your values?  This week I’ll be posting a number of short articles on our values and how they shape us and our relationships.

Values give us our guidance and map as to how we relate and interact with others and ourselves. In essence who we are and how other see us.

Have you ever thought of your values recently? Or even every!  For a lot of people they just take it as read this is who I am.  It can be very interesting and revealing if you take some time and just think about what is important to you and why.

Write out those ten on ten sheets of paper of in a word document and describe why they are important to you.

This is the fun part.  Reduce that list of ten to just three of the most important values to you.  Why are those three so important?

Now reduce the three to just one.  I know this is hard.  Very hard.

Look at that one value that you think really defines you and compare it to the original ten you chose.  Do you get any insights.  You might want to journal about your insights and then play this game a few times over the next few months.  Do your values change?  Why do you think that is?  Do those values change? Have you descovered your core values you choose over and over again?  You may wish to meditate on that.
